Meet the Team

Troy Sutton

Financial Professional

Troy Sutton is the fifth of 10 children of U.S. Air Force Colonel Thomas Sutton and his accomplished wife, Laraine Sutton. Troy learned early that “money doesn’t grow on trees” and that growing and keeping wealth takes not just hard work but hard wisdom. One quote Troy remembers hearing from his parents is the proverb, “A fool and his money are quickly parted.” That is the basis of his whole company. “Nobody can be a fool if they simply know and apply the simple truths about money,” he constantly reminds his clients. Troy is passionate about educating people and their families about the simple truths of money!

Troy’s accomplishments include writing and performing a one-man comedy in New York City’s John Hausman Theater and PSNBC Theater, working at Tokyo Disneyland for three years in their electrical light parade, serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Osaka, Japan, serving in the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps as a counter-intelligence agent, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Utah University, and speaking at businesses and schools as well as local television in Abilene, TX. He has shared his well-rounded experiences with thousands of people and over 1,100 clients.

He started a company, later called Sutton Financial Group, in Texas back in 2002, where he helped his clients diversify their investments, learn the risks and rewards of various categories of investing, and transform a client’s current financial destination by sharing reasonable alternatives with financial planning and legacy planning. In 2020, Troy sold Sutton Financial Group to move back to Utah and assist his parents as they age and face their own challenges of dementia. He has since started Altitude Financial Strategies and looks forward to many years of service.

Thora Sutton

Office Manager

Money is a ‘family thing,’ and Thora has decades of experience organizing, addressing, solving, and otherwise causing success in the ‘family things’ of life. As Office Manager for Altitude Financial Strategies, she is responsible for processing applications, following up on transfers of capital, reaching out and contacting clients for follow-up and appointments, and organizing fun client appreciation events.

She received a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Brigham Young University and is a licensed master aesthetician. So not only do things run smoothly, but she makes everyone LOOK GOOD! She learned her office management skills as a secretary for the BYU International Studies and Study Abroad programs office, where she (surprise, surprise) processed applications for the programs as well as international visa applications, organized and utilized procedures to make the office run smoothly, and applied her skills in theater to assist the program’s advertisements and promotions. Those skills came in handy while raising their four active daughters. She is passionate and grateful to be working with her husband Troy as they share their knowledge and expertise in finance and business.

Melia Sutton

Administrative Assistant

Our consummate artist and storyteller, Melia Sutton, is the 2nd of Troy and Thora’s four daughters. She holds a license in life and health insurance and works as an administrative assistant to Troy and Thora. With her natural empathy and organization skills, she finds great satisfaction in assisting others and helping them realize their goals. While filling her duties for Altitude Financial Strategies, Melia is currently preparing to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
